TOKYO: The Ambassador of Pakistan to Japan, Mr. Abdul Hameed, hosted a dinner in honour of a senior six-member media delegation on Thursday, the delegation led by Senator Syed Sarmad Ali, President of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) and Managing Director of the Jang Media Group, which has since returned to Pakistan.The dinner, held at the Residence of the Ambassador at the Pakistan Embassy in Tokyo, was organized to celebrate the delegation’s visit to Japan. The visit was arranged and sponsored by Pak Suzuki Motor Company Limited (PSMCL). The delegation attended the Japan Mobility Show 2025 and visited the headquarters and Museum of Suzuki Motor Corporation in Hamamatsu. Hiroshi Kawamura, Managing Director of Pak Suzuki, and Ikhlaq Ahmed Virk, GM and Division head corporate affairs, were also invited to the dinner hosted by the Ambassador.The delegation included Mubasher Mir, President of the Karachi Editors Club (KEC); Manzar Naqvi, Secretary General KEC; Mansoor Bukhari, Noor Ullah, and Shehzad Gul-all senior media professionals representing Pakistan’s leading newspapers and media groups. During the evening, Mr. Kawamura and Mr. Virk presented special souvenirs to Ambassador Abdul Hameed as a token of goodwill from Pak Suzuki.In his remarks, Senator Sarmad Ali lauded the Ambassador’s proactive efforts in strengthening Pakistan-Japan friendship, particularly his focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation in trade, education, and culture. On this occasion, the Karachi Editors Club conferred Lifetime Honorary Membership upon Ambassador Abdul Hameed in recognition of his outstanding contributions toward promoting economic and diplomatic ties between the two countries.
Ikhlaq Ahmed Virk appreciated the Ambassador’s achievements during his first few months in office, particularly his initiatives to boost relations between Pakistan and Japan. He emphasized the importance of expanding educational collaboration and student exchange programs between the two nations.
In a candid discussion with the delegation, Ambassador Abdul Hameed shared his views on the recent visit of Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, to Japan, describing it as “highly successful.” He remarked, “Maryam Nawaz is a hardworking and dynamic leader – she begins her day early and continues working late into the night. The Embassy is actively following up on the outcomes of her visit and the MoUs she signed, which will further deepen Pakistan-Japan cooperation.”
Since assuming office as Ambassador of Pakistan to Japan in June 2025, Abdul Hameed has been deeply engaged in revitalizing bilateral relations across multiple fronts. His tenure has emphasized trade and investment promotion, educational partnerships, cultural exchange, and community welfare.
Notable initiatives under his leadership include hosting a high-level dinner for the Japan-Pakistan Business Cooperation Committee (JPBCC), JETRO, and JICA officials to explore new investment avenues; meetings with presidents of Tokyo University of Foreign Studies and Yokohama National University to strengthen student and research exchanges; and inaugurating the Pakistan-Japan Friendship Festival in Tokyo earlier this year.
He also visited the Pakistan Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, which earned Bronze and Editor’s Choice Awards, showcasing Pakistan’s growing cultural and creative presence in Japan.
Ambassador Abdul Hameed reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening Pakistan-Japan relations, noting that the Embassy continues to prioritize the welfare of the Pakistani community in Japan and the promotion of Pakistan’s image as a nation of opportunity, innovation, and friendship.
