Poverty is a chronic problem of human society and a common challenge faced not only by advanced countries but by the whole world. On one hand people are so poor to get two time meals but the situation gets aggravated when poor people suffer sickness and have no resources in getting basis needs to survive. All the countries world over talk so much of poverty but practically it has been seen that not much is being done except showing concern as a result. United Nations has to intervene and take care of poor people all over the world but that is not enough and is also serves a temporary relief. Greater the population, greater the problems. China with a population of 1.4 billion faced great poverty problems but being the world’s largest developing country has tackled this problem in most befitting manner presenting a role model for other countries to follow them. China has long being plagued by poverty it was so large scale rarely seen anywhere else in the world. As a result, the challenge of poverty alleviation in China was much larger and needed gigantic effort and will to pull out people from poverty.
This was a uphill task and a big challenge to the Communist Party of China and more so for the General Secretary Xi Jinping who with the help of party members fought a great battle against poverty and benefited the largest number of people in human history. To mark China’s achievements in poverty alleviation on 25 February 2021, General Secretary Xi solemnly declared: China has scored a “complete victory” in its fight against poverty, absolute poverty has been eradicated in the world’s most populous country.
This example of China is being quoted everywhere in the world. China has a unique distinction having one fifth of the world’s population. Its complete eradication of extreme poverty is certainly a milestone in the history of the Chinese nation and the history of humankind, standing on the top as a major contributor in reducing the cause of global poverty alleviation. Poverty is not predestined, nor is it unconquerable. China’s experience in poverty alleviation indicates that courage, vision, sense of responsibility, and the eagerness to take on challenges are the most essential. With strong will and determination, as well as practical action, one can make steady progress towards overcoming poverty and realizing common prosperity. When economy grows everyone is benefitted. It was dream of Chinese President Xi Jinping says his country has reached the ambitious goal of lifting nearly100 million people out of poverty. It was resolved of Chinese President to work for poor and stood the test by implementing his promise. The government relocated millions of people from remote villages in to flats complexes on the lines built in towns and cities. China has raised the amount of basic pension in rural areas specially for elderly people apart from giving subsidies for basic medical insurance a big relief well received by elders. Complete victory over extreme poverty is an outstanding achievement by any country. This proves beyond any doubt that the Communist Party of China has held fast to its original plan and mission and completed it with remarkable results. The most difficult task is to determine who are the people who are poor, for that CPC developed a set of standards and procedures to accurately identify the poor. Applications are filed by the village committee, reviewed by township government and examined by the county management before the results are made public. The confirmed cases are then registered and a file is created in the national poverty alleviation information system making it error free, however if some discrepancy is observed it is rectified.
