Dar Urges Political Parties to Unite for Pakistan’s Economic Strength

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar called on all political parties, including the Opposition, to collaborate for the betterment of Pakistan’s economic future. In a television interview, he emphasized the need for unity to navigate the country out of its current challenges. Dar also highlighted the importance of civil-military cooperation for national stability, stressing that improved relations between these sectors are vital given the nation’s ongoing struggles.

Constitutional Amendments and Judicial Reforms: A National Priority

Dar underlined the significance of proposed constitutional amendments and judicial reforms, which are essential for strengthening the legal system and resolving the backlog of pending cases in the courts. He pointed out that these reforms are not a new agenda, as they were part of the 2006 Charter of Democracy, agreed upon by major political leaders, including PTI’s Imran Khan and JUI-F’s Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

Challenges in Passing Constitutional Amendments

Despite efforts to gather support, the government has been unable to push the judiciary-centric constitutional amendments through parliament due to a lack of votes. Dar acknowledged the government’s failure to secure backing from Maulana Fazlur Rehman and confirmed that negotiations with PTI were not possible due to their involvement in the May 9 riots.

Dar also highlighted the influence of PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, stating that all major decisions within the party, including those taken by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, are made with Nawaz’s consent.
