Goa Police Open Enquiry Into Nana Patekar’s Death

GOA: Goa Police have registered an “unnatural death” case following the death of veteran Bollywood actor Nana Patekar at the age of 75 and have begun further enquiry into the circumstances surrounding his death.

According to police records, Patekar was brought dead to the casualty ward of Manipal Hospital in Bambolim from his residence at Ocean Park, Dona Paula, Goa.

Panaji Police registered the case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), with PSI Nitin Naik leading the enquiry.

The registration of an unnatural death case is a procedural step to examine the circumstances surrounding a death and does not, by itself, indicate or establish any wrongdoing. Further details are awaited as the enquiry continues.

Patekar was cremated with full state honours at his Donje farmhouse in Pune on Thursday night, October 8.

Following the last rites, his son Malhar Patekar spoke about his father’s legacy and said his achievements and ideals would continue to live on.

“A person like Nana Saheb never truly leaves us; his achievements have made him immortal,” Malhar said.

He added that carrying forward his father’s vision would be the way for the family to shape the future.

Beyond his decades-long career in Indian cinema, Patekar was known for his social initiatives, including his work through the Naam Foundation, which has supported drought-affected farmers and rural communities in Maharashtra.
