Karachi Medal: honours unsung heroes of the city: Barrister Murtaza Wahab

KARACHI: Mayor Karachi, Murtaza Wahab, said that individuals who have rendered outstanding services to the city are its real heroes, and it is the responsibility of society to acknowledge and appreciate their contributions.
He expressed these views while addressing a ceremony held at Khaliq Dina Hall on Sunday, where the “Karachi Medal” was conferred upon distinguished personalities from various fields. The mayor attended the event as the chief guest.
Barrister Wahab stated that awarding the “Karachi Medal” is a tribute to the dedication and services of individuals who have played a significant role in the development and cultural enrichment of Karachi. He emphasized that such recognition not only honours their achievements but also inspires others to contribute positively to society.
The ceremony was attended by Municipal Commissioner KMC Abrar Jaffer, City Council Parliamentary Leader Karamullah Waqasi, Deputy Parliamentary Leader Dil Muhammad, Juman Darwan, and several members of the City Council. Senior Director Sports and Culture Department KMC Mehdi Maloof, Director Sports and Culture Department Shams Noor Masoodi, along with other departmental heads and notable personalities from various walks of life, were also present.
Prominent recipients of the “Karachi Medal” included former cricketer Rashid Latif, firefighter Shaheed Furqan Shaukat of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Fire Brigade, renowned labour leader Karamat Ali (late), former KMC media consultant Ali Hassan Sajid, artist Ghulam Abbas Kamangar, journalist Shah Waliullah Junaidi, fine arts expert Ms. Masooma Halai, marine researcher Dr. Abid Raza, calligrapher Kashif Khan, classical musician Ustad Mazhar Umrao Bindu Khan, dancer Amjad Rana, and scout leader Tahir Sheikh.
The event concluded with a group photograph of Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab alongside the award recipients, marking a memorable tribute to the city’s unsung heroes.
