Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine, born Daniel Hernandez, was ordered detained in New York on Tuesday for alleged violations of his probation terms. Manhattan Judge Paul A. Engelmayer cited instances of misconduct, including failing drug tests and traveling without permission, as signs of disrespect for the law. Additionally, 6ix9ine’s unauthorized departure from the Dominican Republic, where he was previously detained on domestic violence charges, further complicated his case.
During the hearing, Tekashi 6ix9ine appeared late and attempted to address the judge directly, apologizing and explaining issues with his probation supervision, which had recently shifted from New York to Florida. Although Judge Engelmayer expressed some understanding, he ultimately noted a pattern of “cutting corners” in the rapper’s behavior.
Tekashi 6ix9ine previously received a reduced sentence in 2019 after pleading guilty to racketeering and violence associated with the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods. His next hearing is scheduled for November 12, and his lawyer, Lance Lazzaro, expressed optimism that the violations will be dismissed.
