KARACHI: Pakistan and China have launched Warrior-IX, the latest edition of their annual bilateral counterterrorism exercise, marking another milestone in the longstanding defence cooperation between the two Iron-Clad Brothers. Held at the National Counter Terrorism Center (NCTC), Pabbi, the exercise brings together elite troops from the Pakistan Army and the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) to strengthen interoperability and enhance operational capabilities against emerging security threats.
According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the joint drill focuses on modern counterterrorism operations, tactical coordination, and the exchange of best practices-key components in addressing the evolving nature of asymmetric warfare. As terrorism adapts to new methods and technologies, both Pakistan and China recognize the need for joint readiness, updated skills, and cohesive response strategies.
The opening ceremony was attended by senior leadership, including Mangla Corps Commander and Major General Bian Xiaoming, Deputy Chief of Staff of the PLA’s Western Theatre Command, reflecting the strategic priority both nations attach to military cooperation. Their presence underscores that Warrior-IX is not merely a training activity but a reaffirmation of shared security objectives.
Pakistan and China’s defence relationship, rooted in trust, mutual respect, and strategic alignment, continues to serve as a pillar of regional stability. Over the decades, the two nations have developed deep cooperation across defence technology, joint training, intelligence sharing, and counterterror initiatives. This year’s exercise adds renewed substance to that partnership.
With regional security dynamics changing rapidly-from hybrid warfare to transnational militancy-Warrior-IX comes at a critical time. The drill complements broader cooperation under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), where safeguarding key infrastructure and trade routes is essential for long-term prosperity. Joint counterterror capacity therefore remains central to protecting economic and strategic interests.
More than an operational exercise, Warrior-IX sends a clear message: Pakistan and China remain committed to peace, stability, and collective security. As both nations move forward in their strategic journey, the exercise stands as a symbol of enduring friendship and a shared resolve to confront threats that undermine regional harmony.
Warrior-IX reaffirms that Pakistan and China’s defence partnership is strong, future-focused, and firmly aligned in its commitment to a secure region.
