Karachi, December 24, 2024 — Continuing its efforts to provide educational opportunities for prisoners, Central Jail Karachi has seen a record-breaking participation of 328 inmates in formal exams this year, surpassing previous years. This initiative, spearheaded by Superintendent Abdul Karim Abbasi, has garnered significant attention for its scale and impact.
Although the concept of prison education is not new to Pakistan, the high number of participants this year highlights the growing interest and belief in education among inmates. The exams include subjects such as Urdu and Sindhi, with participants ranging from 18 years old to even 60-year-olds. Many of these individuals express hope that the knowledge they gain will serve as a stepping stone for a better future.
Superintendent Abdul Karim Abbasi remarked on the milestone, stating, “The increasing number of inmates taking these exams is a testament to their belief in education as a transformative tool. We are proud to facilitate this journey and help them realize their potential.”
This year’s participation not only reflects the success of the program but also sets an example for other correctional facilities across the country to adopt similar initiatives aimed at rehabilitation through education.
