Sher Afzal Marwat Claims Govt Prepared to Impose Emergency Amid Long March

ISLAMABAD: MNA Sher Afzal Marwat has claimed that the federal government has completed preparations for imposing an emergency, saying any final decision could depend on the number of people participating in the ongoing long march.

Marwat said that, according to information available to him, political figures and bureaucrats had already been identified for a proposed council in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the event an emergency was imposed.

He also claimed that Ikhtiyar Wali could be given a role in the proposed council.

Marwat said both sides were seeking confirmation over whether the other would actually take to the streets, adding that meetings were taking place behind the scenes. He claimed PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar had also attended a meeting two days earlier.

Commenting on KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, Marwat said Afridi would have to face the consequences of actions he allegedly took at the behest of others. He added that he had filed a petition concerning the chief minister on principle.

Marwat further said that if the other side did not appear by October 15, he would no longer believe their statements.

Speaking about his expulsion from PTI, Marwat questioned what fault he had committed during the past three years and claimed that he had also faced abuse.

The claims regarding preparations for an emergency and the proposed KP council were made by Marwat and have not been independently confirmed in the information provided.
