Aurangzeb urged financial architecture reform at G-24 meeting

Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb called for reform of the international financial architecture and timely support for countries pursuing difficult reforms while facing external shocks, the Finance Division said in a statement.

Speaking as First Vice-Chair of the G-24 at the Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors’ Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand, he reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment as incoming Chair to strengthening the group’s collective influence and promoting developing economies’ interests. The meeting took place alongside the World Bank Group–IMF Annual Meetings 2026.

Aurangzeb identified trade and investment disruption caused by fragmentation, climate shocks undermining development gains, restrictive financial conditions and growing financing gaps as challenges facing developing economies. He said reforms to the international financial architecture needed to respond to these pressures.

He set out three priorities for the G-24: putting development at the centre of the international financial system, improving representation and responsiveness in the Bretton Woods institutions, and shaping financial architecture around development. He acknowledged Nigeria’s leadership and urged cooperation among members and institutional partners.
