KARACHI: A major milestone in healthcare infrastructure was achieved at Dr. Ruth K. M. Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi with the formal inauguration of a Centralized Oxygen Supply System, significantly enhancing the hospital’s capacity to provide uninterrupted oxygen supply to patients across all wards and departments.
The upgraded system expands the hospital’s oxygen network from one to five main supply lines, ensuring a steady and reliable flow of medical oxygen – a critical component in emergency and intensive care.
The inauguration ceremony was held at the hospital premises and was attended by senior leaders of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). Senator Syed Waqar Mehdi graced the event as the Chief Guest, accompanied by Javed Nagori and Taimoor Siyal from PPP District South Karachi.
Speaking on the occasion, Senator Waqar Mehdi lauded the hospital administration and the Sindh government for prioritizing public health infrastructure. “This expansion will directly benefit hundreds of patients who rely on public sector healthcare facilities. A stable oxygen supply is the backbone of emergency medical care,” he stated.
Syed Khalid Bukhari, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, expressed gratitude to Azra Fazal Pechuho, Sindh Minister for Health and Population Welfare, and Rehan Iqbal Baloch, Secretary Health, for their continued support and facilitation in making the project a reality.
The inauguration was attended by heads of departments (HODs), senior medical faculty, paramedical staff, and other hospital employees, who hailed the development as a timely upgrade to meet increasing patient needs.
Hospital officials noted that the expanded oxygen network would improve emergency response times, strengthen critical care facilities, and enhance overall service delivery, particularly in high-demand units such as ICUs, operation theaters, and emergency wards
