Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb called for reform of the international financial architecture, the Finance Division said in a statement. He urged timely support for countries pursuing difficult reforms while facing external shocks beyond their control.
Aurangzeb spoke as First Vice-Chair of the G-24 at the Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors’ Meeting. It took place alongside the World Bank Group–IMF Annual Meetings 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand.
He highlighted trade and investment disruption from fragmentation, climate shocks, restrictive financial conditions and widening financing gaps facing developing economies.
He set out three G-24 priorities: restoring development as the international financial system’s central objective and making Bretton Woods institutions more representative and responsive. The priorities also included building an international financial architecture focused on development.
Aurangzeb acknowledged Nigeria’s leadership and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment, as incoming Chair, to strengthening the G-24’s collective influence. He also urged cooperation among members and institutional partners to turn the Global South’s voice into concrete outcomes.
